PLEIADES (IANNIS XENAKIS):
Music for six percussionists composed in 1978 by Greek/French IANNIS XENAKIS composer, architect and engineer. The title is intentionally ambiguous: on one hand, the term derives from a word that means “many” and that alludes to all the instruments used by the performers; on the other hand, it refers to the Greek myth of Pleiades, the seven daughters of Pleione and Atlante. The composition has four movements that derive their names from the specific types of instruments used.
